THE Provineials of the three
Franciscan families-Fr. Justin McLoughlin, 0.F.M., of the Friars Minor, Fr. Maurice Gough, 0.F.M.Conv., of the Conventuals, and Fr. Eghert. 0.F.M.Cap., of the Capuchins --received Archbishop O'Hara, the Apostolic Delegate, when he visited St. Antony's, Forest Gate. I.ondon, on Sunday for Solemn High Mass to mark the feast of St. Francis and the 750th anniversary of the foundation of the Franciscans.
In keeping with the tradition, the Mass was sung by the Dominican Provincial. Fr, Henry St. John. O.P., and the Dominican Fathers of Haverstock Hill on the feast of St. Dominic it is the Franciscans who sing the Mass in Dominican houses.
Ten Provincials in all were present at the Franciscan church-the other congregations represented were the Redemptorists, the Assumptionists. the Pallottine Fathers, the Alexian Brothers, and the Oblates of St. Charles. Mgr. Canon John Howell, Vicar General of the diocese of Brentwood, was present in the sanctuary, and the Provincial of the Friars Minor in Malta. Fr. Alphonsus Camilleri, 0.F.M., was also present.
: Preaching at the Mass, the Franmean Provincial. Fr. Justin McLoughlin. 0.F.M., reminded the congregation that 370 years ago to the day a gallows was being erected for the execution at Mile End Green of Fr. John Welden. who was put to death for the faith early on October 5. That morning over the very district had come the Pope's own representative and priests and laity to the Mass that could not he crushed.
