From former parish priest
Fr. William Joseph Hughes, former parish priest of St, Mary's, Heaton Norris, Stockport, who died in 1951, has left £10.000 to St. Winifred's parish, Heaton Mersey, which he founded in 1937 as a chapel-of-ease while he was at Heaton Norris.
The bequest is towards the cost of the new Church of St. Winifred, which was opened four months after Fr. Hughes's death.
Fr. Hughes also left 000 to the St. Mary's, Heaton Norris, conference ot the St. Vincent de Pau! Society.
He retired in 1941 and from that time until his death at the age of 82 he lived in Callogoriffe, Athlone. He left estate of £26,502.
