Fr William Thorpe SALFORD DIOCESAN priest William Thorpe has died at the age of 84. Born in Bolton in March 1910, he was educated at St I3ede's College, Manchester, and studied for the priesthood at Ushaw College, Durham. He was ordained at the Good Shepherd Convent, Blackley, Manchester, in August 1936.
He served as a curate at St Chad's, Cheetham; St Anne's, Blackburn; St Anne's, Crumpsall; St Mary's, Eccles. He became parish priest at St Winifrid's, Heaton Mersey, in 1959; then at St Teresa's, Blackburn; Holy Saviour, Nelson and from 1979 at Sts
