Liverpool auxiliary enthroned

Bishop John Rawsthorne was ordained Auxiliary Bishop of Liverpool and Titular Bishop of Rotdan on December 16, at Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral.
The episcopal ordination took place during the celebration of Mass concelebrated by the visiting bishops of the Northern Province and the priests of the archdiocese of Liverpool.
The ordaining prelate was Archbishop Derek Worlock of Liverpool assisted by Bishops Kevin O'Connor and Antony Hitchen,. auxiliary bishops of Liverpool.
The visiting bishops (who included the. new Auxiliary Bishop of Middlesbrough, Bishop Kevin O'Brien, ordained only eight days previously) also participated in the ordination by the ceremony of the laying on of hands and the prayer of consecration.
Ecumenical guests, represented the Church of England, the Methodist, Baptist and Free Churches, and the Salvation Army.
They included the Anglican Bishop of Liverpool, Dr David Sheppard, his assistant, Bishop William Slagg, and the Anglican Bishop of Warrington, Dr Michael Henshall.
The Rev Christopher Hill of the Anglican Roman Catholic International Commission (ARCIC) was also in attendance.
Bishop Rawsthorne, who was born in Crosby in 1936, was formerly director of the Catholic Enquiry Centre in London and has for the past six years been part of a team who run the Christian Education Centre for the Liverpool Archdiocese.
