Honours for Catholics

THE New Year Honours List includes a score of Catholics, among them disc jockey Jimmy Savilc, who was awarded the 0.B.E., and the creator of "The Hobbits," Prof. J. R. R. Tolkien, who was made a C.B.E.
Jimmy Savile received the award for his regular but littleknown work as a hospital porter and prison visitor, as well as for his generous donations to charities. Ile is a regular visitor to Broadmoor and Leeds Hospital, where he acts as a porter.
Miss Kathleen Louisa Lynch, bursar at the Mary Ward Catholic College of Education, Keyworth, Nottinghamshire, becomes an M.B.E. She has worked in e d u c a tional administration since 1934.

included—Knights : John Andrew McKay. H.M. Chief Inspector of Constabulary for England and Wales: William Gerard Morris, Recorder, Manchester, and Judge of the Crown Court of Manchester.

C.M.G.: J. J. EspitalicrNoel for services to the sugar industry in Mauritius; Miss J. H. Hammond, for encouragement to young opera singers in Australia.

C.R.E.: Mrs. A. ParkerBowles, Chief Commissioner of the Girl Guides Association; Martin DuPrd Cooper, music critic, the Daily Telegraph; M. E. J. Ribet, lately Cornmissioner of Police, Mauritius; M. J. A. Robert, for services to legal profession, Mauritius; David Ward, surgeon.
