Catholics among the honours

MISS JEAN MARY MAXWELL-SCOTT. Lady-in-Waiting to Princess Alice. Duchess of Gloucester, was one of the Catholics included in this year's Queen's birthday honours list. A great granddaughter of the writer Sir Walter Scott, Miss Maxwell-Scott is to receive the DCVO.
Fewer Catholics than usual appeared in the list, and most of the honours were awarded to Catholics in the services. Prominent among them was Maj-General John Hopkinson, Chiefof-Staff of the headquarters of the allied forces in Northern Europe since 1982. He is awarded a CR. Other Catholics among the honours include: CB: Rear Admiral John Walters, RN.
CBE: James Anthony Gaffney, Director of Engineering Services, West Yorks County Council; James Gordon, Managing Director, Radio Clyde; Brigadier .1 B Howard. Late King's Own Border: Councillor A J Long, Chairman Social Work Committee, Strathclyde Council, Captain P T Sheehan.
MBE: Warrent Officer M .1 Linnane, RAF; Squadron Leader C W Pennell. RAF.
BEM: C Russell, Inspector for the Scottish Special Housing Association.
AFC: Squadron Leader W R Irving.
