RoNailio, the Internazionale striker, has roused the ire of the Brazilian Church for appearing in a tyre advertisement with outstretched arms on a hill above Rio de Janeiro .
The Brazilian hierarchy is infuriated by this apparent imitiation of the statue of Christ the Redeemer overlooking Rio de Janeiro. Eugenio Sales, the Archbishop of Rio has called the advert "an abuse which deserves condemnation". The mercurial Inter Milan no. 10, a Catholic, denies his posture is blasphemous. He says he is merelystriking the pose he adopts when he scores a goal lately an infrequent event.
Mairitiniā€¢ Till: NEW Millennium should be entered with courage and hope rather than fear and anxiety, Cardinal Carlo M. Martini, Archbishop of Milan, said in a New York address last week. He also suggested the Millennium could be an occasion for giving attention to problems between Christians and Jews.
