Guyana newspaper threat

A CAMPAIGN to save the Catholic Standard, the weekly newspaper of the Catholic Church in Guyana, South America, is being backed by the British MP David Alton.
The newspaper has been under constant pressure since 1978, when it criticised a Guyanan government referendum designed to delay General Elections.
The Catholic a rd an bishops of Guyana have sct up a Committee in Defence of the Catholic Standard, and have circulated a letter asking for the backing of prominent Catholics in this country.
