Commonwealth men at Cathedral Mass
ripHE Catholic delegates to the -ICommonwealth Legal Conference in London. numbering about 50. attended the Capitular Mass in Westminster Cathedral on Sunday and were later received by Cardinal Griffin at Archbishop's House.
In an address during the reception, His Eminence said: ', The Catholic community in this country, though it grows apace in numbers and activities. is not large. Yet we can never lose sight of the fact that there are to-day over 26 million Catholics in the British Commonwealth, and we have a most important task to play within the life of our family of nations, " I hope for this reason you feel yourselves at home at Westminster, and I have no doubt that in the course of these days here in London your thoughts will turn to that great Englishman and martyr of the Church, St. Thomas More, once Lord Chancellor.
SPECIAL PATRON
" He epitomises many virtues and he roust clearly be the special patron of all legal men.
" He was ahead of his time in the extent of his outlook. and in him we see justice fired with charity. He kept things in their true proportion and knew at which stage in his life he must take a stand on matters of principle.
" His famous words about being the King's good and faithful servant but God's first can be our guide in all we have to do.
" Our religion strengthens our loyalties. It inspires us in our activities, and I pray that the graces of our faith be your strength and your consolation in the important work to which you have been called."
