Evangelisation congress draws 2,000

ENGLISH and Welsh delegates joined more than 2,000 people in Budapest this week to experience first-hand what has been described as a “hope-filled model for European and parish evangelisation”.
The International Congress for the New Evangelisation is now in its fifth year and was the brainchild of the cardinals of four European cities – Vienna, Paris, Lisbon and Brussels – who run the now annual event with the support of the Emmanuel Community. The hope is that the congresses will support and help to realise the re-evangelisation of Europe.
Cardinal Peter Erdo, Archbishop of EsztergomBudapest and Primate of Hungary, introduced the event and Emeritus Bishop Ambrose Griffiths of Hexham and Newcastle, along with the Catholic Agency to Support Evangelisation, led the English and Welsh delegation.
During the week-long congress more than 90 parishes put on events, including exhibitions in 15 of the city’s largest museums. Delegates from all over the world supported a variety of evangelistic events, including prayer evenings, drama presentations and evangelistic salsa sessions.
