Mr. C. E. Kirwin, a master at St. Charles's School, Leeds, who is standing again as the Conservative candidate. may he opposed by another Catholic. Councillor J. Rafferty, a member of the city council. is on the short list of prospective Labour candidates.
The by-election was caused by the elevation of Major Milner, M.P., to the peerage. •
