PILGRIMS AT PADLEY

Hundreds of Catholics from Sheffield and from many parts of the Nottingham diocese attended last Thursday's annual Padley Pilgrimage at Grindleford, Derbyshire, for which Bishop Restieaux of Plymouth returned to the diocese in which he was a priest for more than 20 years, to give the address at the afternoon ceremonies.
There were many children in the long procession which walked the quarter-mile from Grindleford station, headed by Bishop Resticaux and Bishop Ellis, of Nottingham. to Padley Chapel and the grassy ruins of Padley Hall where the two priest martyrs, Sheffield-born Robert Ludlam and Glossop-born Nicholas Garlick, were arrested 369 years ago.
Benediction was given by Bishop Ellis. In his address, Bishop Restietue said: " During the last 100 years Catholics in England and in Ireland have been very keen to sing that well-known hymn of Fr. Faber, Faith of our fathers,' but it is not much use to sing or say those fine, grand words unless we are doing what we can for the conversion of England, for bringing back the people of this country to the precious faith which they have lost and for which so many martyrs died."
Another pilgrimage procession was held last Sunday, when more than 1.000 pilgrims attended, and an address was given by Fr. J. G. Coyne of Swadlincote.
