PILGRIMS TO PADLEY

DADLEY Chapel, Derbyshire. at 1 one time numbered among England's "Forgotten Shrines"—it was included in Dom Bede Camm's book of that name—was once ta.ed as a cowshed and hayloft.
Now in its rightful place as a centre of Catholic pilgrimage, Padley was visited on Thursday of last week by Bishop Ellis of Nottingham, who said Mass at the original altar stone which was discovered buried in the ruins of Padley Manor by the late Mgr. Charles Payne, V.G.
The occasion was the annual pilgrimage in honour of the two priestmartyrs of Padley, the yen. Nicholas Garlic and the Ven. Robert Ludlam, who were hanged, drawn and quartered at Derby.
Bishop Ellis later presided at High Mass, attended by a children's choir from Marple Bridge and celebrated by Fr. Alfred Baldwin, parish priest of St. Anne's, Buxton.
In the afternoon the Bishop took part in the pilgrimage procession, joined by Catholics from many parishes in Nottinghamshire. Derbyshire. Lincolnshire and South Yorkshire, who heard Fr. J. seph Christie. S.J., preach in the open air.
