MGR. THOMAS QUINLAN, hero of the Korean " Death March," has been appointed a Bishop.
His prefecture of Chunchonwhich is as big as Ireland—has been raised to the rank of a vicariate and he has been named titular Bishop of Fernos Major.
Part of the vicariate is above the 38th Parallel and in Communist hands. so Mgr. Quinlan will not be able to visit it.
He will continue to be Regent of the Apostolic Delegation in Seoul. the capital. He dug the grave of his predecessor in the Delegation, Bishop Byrne, who died shortly after the Death March in 1950.
Mgr. Quinlan, a member of the Societyof St. Columban, comes from Tipperary.
His vicariate is staffed by 17 Columban Fathers and 10 Korean priests.
