Lefebvre ordained papal attacker

JUAN FERNANDEZ KROHN. arraigned on Friday in Portugal on charges of the attempted murder of Pope John Paul on May 12 during his visit to Fatima. was ordained a priest by dissident Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre in 1978: said his first Mass, at which Archbishop Lefebvre spoke, in rented space in a fashionable Madrid hotel, and then broke with the archbishop and his Fraternity of St Pius X, apparently over the issue of papal
After the attempted assassination, Archbishop Lefebvre's group issued a statement denouncing the attack on the Pope and reaffirming its attachment to the Holy See.
The attack on the Pope has been condemned by one of the priest's former classmates. Fr Edward Black studied for the priesthood with Fr Krohn at a seminary in Econe. Switzerland. run by Archbishop Lefebvre.
Fr Black was also ordained by Archbishop Lefebvre. Fr Black is now Father Superior for the Society of St Pius X in Britain. Fr Krohn was asked to leave the Society about two years ago because of his extreme views and his refusal to accept loyalty to the Papacy.
"Fr Krohn came to believe that Pope John Paul was not Pope at all — that he was some form of Antichrist — and that the Papacy had been vacant since the death of Pope Pius XII.
"Our Society's view of the Pope is that we give him our unquestioning obedience while he teaches in conformity with the 2,000 year old tradition of the Catholic Church. Put simply, it's like a child's relationship with his lather. One should revere and respect one's father, but one is not obliged to do what he says if it is wrong.
-But being critical of some Papal decisions is a far cry from attacking the Holy Father. We utterly condemn the action of Fr Krohn which, apart from its basic immorality, would seem to be' entirely useless from a purely human viewpoint to those who believe as Fr Krohn does."
Exactly how long Fernandez Krohn and the Fraternity of St Pius X remained on good terms is uncertain, but according to the fraternity, Fernandez Krohn left Turn to page 8
