Rev. W. J. Flynn, O.B.E.
PRIEST OF PORTSMOUTH DIOCESE. The death has occurred at the age of 60 years of the Rev. William J. Flynn, 0.B.E., parish priest of St. Joseph's, Christchurch, !tants.
Born at Southsea he was educated at Woolhampton and Valladolid and was ordained in Jersey in November, 1904, at the same time as the Bishop of Portsmouth (the Right Rev. John H. King). A Chinese bishop officiated at the ordination.
Father Flynn was successively curate at Gu,ernsey, Winchester and Ryde (I. of W.) before becoming chaplain at Tichborne House, near Winchester. During the last war he served as a chaplain in France, East Africa and Gibraltar, retiring as a first class chaplain some half doeen years ago to become parish priest at Christchurch where the funeral was held on Thursday, February 19.

AMPLEFORTH MONK, BORN IN FRANCE
Fr. Marcel Maui-us Mute, a monk of Amplefonh Abbey, died on Sunday, February 15, at the age of 75. He was born at Poitiers, and was educated at the Jesuit College at Tours. In 1891 he received the Benedictine habit at the monastery of Liguge, and was ordained priest in 1897. He took the degree of B.Litt., and was an artist of ability.
In 1900 he came to England to enter the English Benedictine Congregation, and was affiliated to Ampleforth. He taught in the school for a time, and then worked in several Benedictine parishes. He was at the old mission of Brindle, Lancs, as assistant, and also at Warwick Bridge, Carlisle, and Grassendale, I.iverpool, and he served as chaplain at two convents. For thirteen years he was parish priest at Easingwold, Yorks, and tor seven years at Harrington, Cumberland.
Fr. Bluth was a man of great vigour and earnestness, but for several years his health had been failing, and for the last five years he had been obliged to give up active work
almost entirely. He died of angina at Knaresborough, a parish belonging to Ampleforth, where he was living in retirement. He wits buried at the Abbey on Febniary 19.

Dies Burton-on-Trent Council No. 258 of the Knights of St. Columba have lost one of their most respected members in Mr. Frederick Birtles, who died on Thursday, February 5, at the age of 59, A Requiem Mass was said on Monday at the Church of SS. Mary and Modwen, Burton-on-Trent, at which the Rev. Fr. McKeever officiated. At Burton Cemetery the service was conducted by Father Gardner
Fellow watchmen from Messrs. Bass and Co. were bearers.
