THE 1.300th anniversary of the Synod of Whitby which, led by the Abbess St. Hilda in 664, fixed the datt of Easter, is to he celebrated with art ecumenical festival at Whitby Abbey in June.
Plans are well advanced under an inter-denominational
commit tee for a week's pageant in the abbey grounds, culminating in a religious service at which the Archbishop of York will preach.
This will be followed on Sunday. June 21, by a Catholic celebration at the abbey, which should appeal to Catholics of the North.
