Radio Play about St. Hilda

St. Hilda, the Northumbrian princess whose fame as art abbess became so great that from far and near royalty as well as monks journeyed to consult her, was the subject of a radio drama in the famous American Catholic broadcast, the "Ave Maria Hour," recently. St. Hilda was baptized by St. Paulinus and appointed Abbess of the monastery of Whitby by St. Alden. Under her rule no fewer than five of the monks became bishops. Here in 664 was held the important synod at which the observance of Easter and other moot points were decided. It is related that when she died in 688 the tolling of the Whitby monastery bell was heard 13 miles away.
