Stonyhurst requiem

THE SOCIETY of Jesus and particularly Stonyhurst College mourned the loss of a loyal triumvirate last week as a requiem Mass was celebrated for three priests who had been Jesuits for a total of 184 years.
The Mass in memory of Frs Charles Macadam, Paul Magill and Henry Macklin was celebrated in Farm Street Church, London in the presence of a packed congregation of former Stonyhurst pupils.
The three priests died within six months of each other over the new year and were the subject of an affectionate homily by Fr Michael O'Halloran SJ, the present Rector of Stonyhurst.
He stressed the diversity of character of the three priests, whose lives — indeed deaths — were so intermingled. One thing they did have in common, remarked Fr O'Halloran, was that each spent the last 34 years of his life as a member of the Stonyhurst community.
