The Late Canon Mahoney

Parliamentary and municipal life were represented at St. George's Cathedral, Southwark, last week, for the solemn requiem for Canon James Mahoney, Ph.D., of Deptford. The Mayor and Mayoress of Deptford and a number of aldermen and councillors attended, and Mr. Herbert Morrison, M.P., was represented by members of his staff.
On the ecclesiastical side the attendance was noteworthy. The Mass was celebrated by the Bishop of Pella, Mgr. W. F. Brown, in the presence of the Archbishop-Bishop, who gave the absolution. Priests, seculq, and regular, numbered upwards of a hundred; they included the members of the Southwark Chapter and also canons representing the Chapters of Westminster and Brentwood.
A number of priests who had served under Canon Mahoney as curates formed a choir at the graveside in Brockley Cemetery, where the interment took place in the Knill vault.
At Brockley a large crowd assembled for the final scene; many of the number were men and women of Canon Mahoney's Congregation at Deptford,
