St Mary's Sicilian adventure

A GROUP Of 13 girls and two members of staff from St Mary's School in Menston, West Yorkshire. spent five days enjoying glorious sunshine and the hospitality of pupils from the Maria Ausiliatrice School on the beautiful island of Sicily as part of the Comenius exchange programme.
The group stayed with host families who welcomed the St Mary 's students into their homes and fed them copious amounts of delicious Sicilian food, The students enjoyed seeing the differences between their respective schools and worked with the Sicilian students on the theme of "bridges and cornmunication", producing presentations and posters to represent Sicily and England.
Students also had the opportunity to explore some of the incredible sights on the island, including the Greek and Roman amphitheatres in the ancient city of Siracusa and Europe's highest active volcano, Mount Etna. Some of the more energetic students trekked up the mountain and were rewarded with breathtaking views. Following a farewell party with the Sicilian students and staff the final goodbye in the airport was tearful for the group had formed good friendships over the course of the trip.
One student commented: "We can safely say that the exchange was a complete success and we eagerly await March when our Sicilian partners come to England. We would recommend this exchange to anyone — you'd be mad to miss out!"
