C.H.' report starts a drive for hostels
IIRRED by THE CATHOLIC HERALD revelations of the housing conditions of Irish workers and by similar reports soon after, the Birmingham Social Council has decided to send representatives to interview the civic authorities and urge them to provide more hostel and other accommodation. Some days after the CATHOI.IC HERALD disclosures, Mr. de Valera denounced the overcrowded living conditions to which Irish workers on armament projects in the Midlands are subjected. Social workers have been disturbed by the religious and moral dangers involved in the overcrowding.
