DELINQUENCY DOSSIER PLAN

Catholic Herald Reporter FIFTY Catholic social workers directly involved with delinquents met in London last week to discuss practical and theoretical approaches to social work.
At this meeting, the first of a series which are to be held, Archbishop Murphy of Cardiff represented the Hierarchy as chairman.
It is hoped that after further meetings a dossier of information on delinquency can be compiled for the use of the Hierarchy. The dossier will also be made available to the Royal Commission for the Prevention of Crime.
Fr. Augustine Harris, chaplain at H.M. Prison Walton, Liverpool, who organised the meetings, said he had been promised every help from the Home Office.
Matters discussed at the first meeting were: the prevention of crime; prison welfare and ftercare, including hostels; the inadequate delinquent, the juvenile delinquent and the philosophy underlying the whole system of crime and punishment.
Among those attending the meeting were Catholic representatives from the Home Office Prison Department, workers from the Children's Department, 15 prison and detention centre chaplains, approved school managers and deputy prison governors. Representatives of the S.V.P., the Catholic Housing Aid Society, Dismas House and the National Council of Catholic Youth Clubs were also present.
