Westminster mourns `understanding' bishop
liISHC)P PHILIP HARVEY OBE, a retired auxiliary bishop of Westminster, died on February 2 following a long illness – he was 87 writes Christina White.
Bishop Harvey was born in Richmond, Surrey and studied for the priesthood at St Edmund's College, Ware. He was ordained in June 1939 and served in parishes at Cricklewood, Kentish Town and Fulham. He was appointed OBE in 1973 for his work with Crusade Rescue, a child welfare charity and ordained auxiliary bishop of Wesuninster in 1977 with special responsibility for North London. He dedicated over 50 years of his life to the diocese of Westminster.
In a statement Cardinal Cormac M u rphy-O' Connor said he was "renowned for his understanding, approachability and his listening ear. He will be sorely missed."
Bishop Harvey's body will be received into Westminster Cathedral this Sunday at 7.45pm. His requiem will take place on Monday at 12 noon.
