HISTORIC HEADLINE " Religious Persecution in Germany "

(Continued from page 1.) Fahrer's visit is a pointed and significant one.
The Osservatore Romano, semi-official Vatican newspaper, of April 25. is an histie icnumber. For the first time the description of affairs in Germany was given under the heading " La Persecuzione Religiosa in Germania."
The article describes how the grave events in Austria had produced such bewilderment and anxiety that the Bishop of St. Gall in Switzerland published a pastoral for the enlightenment and strengthening of his people.
In the pastoral, according to the Osservatore Romano, the Bishop refers to " the fight against Christianity going on across the frontier, and to the persecution that their brothers in the faith were going through." According to the Osservatore Romano, the Bishop said that " we can see the facts detailed by the Pope in his Encyclical Mit Brennender Sorge verified day by day. " Catholic schools are closed, people are coerced to leave the Church . . religious instruction of the Youth is made impossible . . . Catholic organisations are suppressed . . a press campaign is made against the Church, while its own newspapers and magazines are suppressed...."
Vienna Tyrant Officially Installed
In addition. it may be said that Herr Buerckel has been confirmed in his position in Vienna, and the dissolution of the most vital Catholic Youth Associations, all guaranteed in the Austria Concordat, has begun in earnest.
