" Peace is Aim of British Policy"

—OSSERVATORE ROMANO
The Osservatore Romano, semiofficial Vatican newspaper, in a recent article on the international situation, states that, contrary to the German interpretation of the British policy of guarantees, " the maintenance of peace continues to be the supreme interest and objective of
English policy, which is always ready to discuss any proposed solution of the Danzig problem which respects the rights and interests of Poland."
The Osaereatore Romano welcomes the news that an accord has been reached between Britain and Japan after the recent controversy over Tientsin.
It hopes that this agreement may open the way to further negotiations and peaceful settlements of other outstanding disputes between the nations.
The Osservatore also welcomes the statement made last week by a Berlin official that Germany rejects a warlike solution of the Danzig dispute. It notes, however, that Berlin at the same time emphasises that it does not withdraw any of its claima.
The Osservatore Romano, in a diepassionate examination of the quarrel between Japan and the western democracies, estimates as certain the chances of a peaceful solution to problems occasioning the incidents at Tientsin. The Vatican newspaper draws attention to the military strength of Britain and France in the Extreme Orient.
