LONDON SCHOOLS PLANS READY

Plans for the re-organisation of the schools in the diocese of Westminster which come under the London County Council and the counties of Hertfordshire and Middlesex have been submitted to the Education Authorities.
For several weeks now the Diocesan Schools Association. under the vice
chairmanship of Canon Wood, has held frequent meetings with . the parish priests and with the Superiors of the Religious Orders. The main object has been to make provision for every Catholic child in the diocese to have a Catholic education. Every convent school in the diocese and all existing schools have been brought into the scheme, and the Superiors of the convents have been extremely helpful.
Two weeks ago, the Archbishop. who is chairman of the Diocesan Schools Association. with members of the Association met representatives of the Middlesex and Hertfordshire County Education Authorities respectively to present the plans as a basis of discussion. The meetings were extremely cordial and we were promised every help and assistance. The scheme under the L.C.C. was sent in last week.
With regard to the provision of nursery accommodation, the proposals arc for the provision of nursery classes attached to the primary school, with the exception of Poplar, where it is proposed to haste a nursery school. Provision for such nursery accommodation will only be made where it is necessary and will be mostly in the London area.
Some of the secondary grammar schools are prepared to become multilateral schools and to have both a modern and a grammar section. The new modern secondary schools are to have a technical department attached to them.
Under the London County Council the proposals include 16 new secondary schools and will affect 14 primary schools, sonic of which will be amalgamated, and in other cases new primary schools will havd to be built. It is also proposed to change one or two of the smaller schools into day special schools. as
In Hertfordshire two new secondary schools will have to be built and two new primary schools, and five other schools are asking for recognition.
Under the Middlesex County several secondary schools will have to be enlarged and four will have to be built. Some of the existing secondary schools are seeking to be aided voluntary schools and others are seeking recogni
tion as efficient. Three new primary schools will have to be built and four will have to be enlarged.
