but rivals in scuffles
MORE than 1,000 people gathered at Palmar de Troya, Spain, last week hoping to see apparitions and miracles. Instead they witnessed a lively confrontation and scuffles between the followers and opponents of the irregularly ordained bishop, Clemente Dominguez.
Pilgrims' had come from France and Ireland, as well as from other parts of Spain, attracted by the widespread publicity which forecast that Clemente Dominguez would be miraculously cured of his blindness and that Our Lady would appear. Clemente Dominguez, a professed supporter of Archbishop Lefebvre is the head of the Carmelite Order of the Holy Face, an organisation which has been fostering a cult at Palmar and which has been frequently censured by the local Church authorities.
Last September the Vatican Congregation of the Faith prohibited members of the order from performing priestly or other ministerial functions, Those involved in irregular ordinations in Palmer have been excommunicated, but since then the main participant Archbishop Peter Martin NgoDinh Thuc, formerly of Vietnam, has formally repented and has had his ex-communication
