Dom George Forbes OSB, a former Grenadier Guard, has died at the age of 89.
Educated at Ampleforth, he entered Sandhurst and obtained a commission in the Grenadier Guards before returning to the abbey. He joined the community in 1923, and was ordained in 1931.
During the war, he served as a military chaplain in Algeria. Tunisia, and Sicily, where his work in caring for the wounded and dying and burying the dead was recognised by the award of the Military Cross for Valour; in 1946 he travelled to Palestine to continue this work before returning to Amplcforth later that year.
Canon Robert Fallon died recently at the age of 74.
Born in Birkenhead, he studied for the priesthood at Ushaw, the English College, Rome, and Stonyhurst before being ordained in 1944.
After spells at Birkenhead and Stockport as an assistant priest, he was sent to St Gabriel's, Alsager. Later he moved on to St Ambrose, Adswood; St Mary's, Crewe; St Winefride's, Sandbach; and SS Peter and Paul, New Brighton.
From 1983-4, he was an area dean, and he became a chapter canon in 1984. Fr Kenneth Snaith has died at the age of 68.
Born in Edinburgh, he became an accountant before training for the priesthood at St Augustine's College, Walworth and St John's Seminary, Wonersh; he was ordained in 1963.
After serving as assistant priest in Tooting, he was appointed to take charge of the diocesan travelling mission.
In 1975, he was procurator at Wonersh, spending a brief spell as assistant priest at West Mailing and Broadstairs before becoming parish priest of Hersden in 1978.
Fr Gerard Molloy died recently at the age of 73. Born in Manchester, he studied for the priesthood at the Gregorian University, Rome, being ordained in 1941 as a Holy Ghost Father.
After spells at St Mary's College, Grange-over-Sands, and St Joseph's College, Upton Hall, he served as assistant priest at St Joseph's, Peazley Cross; Mary Immaculate and St Peter, New Barnet; St Peter's Lodge, in Douglas, Lanarkshire; and St Anne's Ashton-under-Lyme.
In 1974, he was incardinated into the Salford diocese, where he served as assistant priest at SS Peter and Paul, Bolton, and English Martyrs, Whalley Range. Mcnevia travels to Oxford for the conference of the Catholic Record Society.
On Wednesday, Archbishop Michael Bowen of Southwark concelebrates mass at Westminster Cathedral to mark the 500th anniversary of the birth of St Ignatius. Bishop John Brewer of Lancaster celebrates mass in honour of the Blessed Edward Bamber on Thursday at St Winefride's House, Blackpool.
Bishop Cormac Murphy O'Connor of Arundel and Brighton, Bishop Patrick Kelly of Salford and Bishop Joseph Gray of Shrewsbury remain with their diocesan pilgrimages at Lourdes during the week.
