Cheshire homes turn away cases

DESPITE their present strength Cheshire Homes in the U.K.. have. had to turn away 837 needy cases in recent times.
Group Captain Leonard Cheshire, V.C., reported this at t Ii e Cheshire Foundation's Annual Family Day at the West Riding Home, White Windows. near Halifax.
"If we seem a bit overanxious about our homes and our spending on them it is only because there is this great need," he said.
Group Captain Cheshire went on: "We cannot say that our contribution is a solution to the total problem of the disabled. It is only part of a solution. One hopes that as time goes on more and more will be done by the State, local authorities and private individuals to make it possible for the disabled to live in their own homes in family life."
' A feature of this year's Family Day at White Windows was the interdenominational chapel which voluntary -workers from the local C. of E. Men's Society, Halifax K.S.C. and St. Mary's Memorial Club, Halifax (with the help of a local Catholic building firm) made from a disused garage.
Sowerby Methodists provided the floor coverings and the altar is the one given by Bishop Trevor Huddle stone when he was at Mirficld.
