`Minimum just wage E7 10s.'

Fr. C. Pridgeon, S.J., of the Catholic Social Guild. who is touring the North-East, estimated in a speech at Hordern Co. Durham, that a minimum just wage for a man with a wife and three children might today be about £7 10s., with allowances adding 16s.
"But," added Fr. Pridgeon, "we are getting into a vicious circle. As family life dies, members seek their interests outside: entertainment becomes an expensive 'need.' and higher wages are demanded to meet increased 'wants' —which encourages the decline of domestic family life.
-The Christian ideal of frugal living is closely connected with the Christian preservation of family life."
