Cardinal Hlond's Wishes for Poland

Cardinal Hlond, Archbishop of Warsaw and Primate of Poland, was received by the Pope in private audience on Christmas Eve, before the Pope delivered his Christmas allocution to the Cardinals.
That evening, Cardinal Hlond broadcast in Polish from Vatican Radio.
" People deceived by lies," said the Cardinal, " and stricken by hardship see in the Manger no more than a symbol, but the spirit of Poland cannot be led astray or dominated by the secular. More than ever for Poland, the Manger represents dawn, the Child, the leader. We know that thanks to the Child, good will prevail, truth will triumph, the spirit of Christ will overcome lack of faith, incompetence, hypocrisy and sin. I wish that Poland may accomplish her great reconstruction without regret or fear; that temptations should not lead Poland astray; that Poland may remain a bulwark of truth, freedom, progress and prosperity; that the exiles may fled happiness at home with their families."
