Discussion over Council of Christians and Jews
IT has now been publicly an nounced that the Holy See has instructed Catholics to relinquish their membership of the Council of Christians and Jews.
Cardinal Griffin, one of the presidents. Lord Perth, a joint treasurer. and Lord Pekenham resigned some time ago.
Discussions have been going on for a considerable time "in the hope.' says The Times, "of finding a way to restore the united outlook on those matters of common concern for which the council have stood since they were set up in 1942."
The council's aim was to combat religious and racial intolerance. promote understanding and good will between Christians and Jews and to foster co-operation.
