NEGRO TO BE A BISHOP
Second appointment in French Canieroons
ITIHE Holy Father has appointed 1 a second Negro Bishop in the French Cameroons—Fr. Thomas Mongo, who is to be Auxiliary Bishop of Douala.
Douala, formerly a vicariate, became a diocese recently with the establishment of the Hierarchy in all the French African possessions.
The first Negro Bishop was Mgr. Paul Etoga. who was consecrated on November 30.
Mgr. Mongo is 40 years old.
The appointment of these Negro Bishops is a clear indication of the Church's continuing policy to build up the native clergy and Hierarchy in missionary lands.
A report issued on Mission Sunday named 12 (native Bishops appointed in the past year. Africa then had 96 African Bishops.
