Canon Austin Moran
A PARISH PRIEST at Morely, in West Yorkshire, for more than 40 years, Canon Austin Moran has died after a long illness. He was 83.
Born in Leeds in 1910, he studied for the priesthood at Ushaw and was ordained in June 1934. He first became assistant priest in Selby, then at St Patrick's, Bradford, and then Bingley.
He moved to Morley in September 1947, and was parish priest there until retirement in 1988.
Canon Philip Soar
NOTTINGHAM PRIEST Canon Philip Soar died on 18 June at the age of 78. His funeral was on 25 June.
Derby-born Philip Soar studied for the priesthood at the San Sulpice seminary in Paris and was ordained in June 1938. He was appointed first to St Paul's, Nottingham, and towards the end of the Second World War became parish priest at St Patrick's in the city.
For his 49 years in the parish, he lived humbly in the same council maisonette.
