Injunctio on Palmar

An injunction granted by a Seville judge forbids Clemente Dominguez, one of a group of irregularly ordained priests and bishops, to wear clerical garb or officiate at religious services.
The group, calling itself the Carmelite Order of the Holy Face, has been fostering pilgrimages of American and other tourists to Palmer de Troya, the site of alleged apparitions of the Virgin Mary which have been repeatedly denied by Church authorities.
Dominguez and other selfstyled visionaries were ordained priests and then bishops recently by a retired Nietnamese churchman, Archbishop Pierre Martin Ngo Dinh Thuc, formerly of Hue, in South Nrietnam. All have been excommunicated for defying rules on the ordination of clergy.
The group, which also has women religious, has refused to acknowledge its separation from the Church and has vowed to continue ordaining other members and publicizing the alleged apparitions.
Posing as a Catholic group, Dominguez and the others have promoted chartered flights from the United States and countries in Europe and South • America. Contributions by foreign pilgrims and a few Spaniards are increasing, allowing the group to invest in property in Seville and elsewhere.
The judge cited a Spanish law against impersonating officials of recognised institutions. The prohibition covers posing as bishops. The order claims it has ordained 22 bishops so far.
