PORTUGAL IN PICTURES

PORTUGAL, by Yves Bottineau
(Thames and Hudson, 35s.).
THE interspersing of text and
pictures in this volume is a happy choice; it prevents neglect of either one or the other, at the same time giving something of a setting to the illustrations.
This latest volume of topographical books published by Thames and Hudson is of the standard one has come to expect in their work. It is sad that the colour of this beautiful country is reflected only in the jacket and that the book itself includes only photogravure. "Germany " was greatly enhanced by the inclusion of colour reproduction, and Pena Castle (Plate 122) is but one of many subjects that might have lent themselves admirably to such treat meat.
