VENICE by Gabriel Faure (Nicholas Kaye, 35s.).
VENICE by H. Decker (Thames & Hudson, 50s.).
VENICE is one of the few cities
of the world about which one could never publish too much—be it the watereays and gondolas, its architectural splendours, the glories of its churches, the brilliance of its decoration, the treasures of its arts, or the greatness of its history — we may always discover more.
One does not feet, therefore, that two books on this city appearing at the same time need necessarily elbow each other out of attention.
The first book is one in which text and pictures blend into a comprehensive report as might be made after a prolonged visit to Venice, Fot only its treasures find a place, but also its peoples and customs.
The second book. however, is rather a connoisseur's record. It contains 243 photographs of the magnificence of this great city on the Adriatic Sea; for sheer beauty it would be difficult to surpass this volume.
