Course to help foreign priests

A SEMINARY in Durham is offering a three-week course to help foreign priests from India, Africa and Eastern Europe adjust to life in Britain.
Priests who sign up to the course at Ushaw Seminary will meet parishioners, experience English liturgy and get topup English lessons.
They will learn about social issues such as HIV, domestic violence and single parenthood.
Fr Terry Drainey, the rector of Ushaw Seminary, said he was “immensely grateful” to people who had made him aware of cultural differences while he was working in Spain and Kenya. “This is especially true in the sensitive area of pastoral care and ministry,” he added.
Fr John Dale, national director of Pontifical Mission Societies, said that the course would enable students to become “confident and effective pastors” in England and Wales.
