ORDINARY OF FORCES

Fr. O'Connell appointed
FR. P. J. O'CONNELL, Principal Catholic Chaplain, Royal Air Force, has been appointed by the Holy See to succeed Mgr. J. M. Clarke as Administrator Apostolic for H.M. Forces.
Fr. O'Connell is now Mgr. O'Connell, Ordinary to H.M. Forces. All purely ecclesiastical matters concerning Catholic chaplains and personnel in the Forces should be referred to him at the Air Ministry, 15 Cadogan Gardens. Sloane Square, S.W.3.
Mgr. John Michael Clarke had been Administrator Apostolic for seven years. As a Mill Hill Father he served for 10 years in India from 1917. He became a Regular Army chaplain at the beginning of the second World War and served in North Africa and Italy.
Mgr. Patrick O'Connell has been Principal Catholic Chaplain, Royal Air Force, for nearly four years, As a Pallotine Father he served at the Italian Church in Hatton Garden, London, and at Greenford, Middlesex, before he joined the R.A.F. as a chaplain in 1936. He has served, in war and peace, in Iraq, the Mediterranean area, the Middle East and Northern Rhodesia.
