Aberdeen University honours Apostolic Nuncio

THE POPE'S Ambassador to Great Britain, Archbishop Faustino Sainz Munoz, has been honoured by Britain's northernmost university for his role in representing the Catholic Church in some of the most crucial negotiations of 20th century international relations. The Apostolic Nuncio was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Laws (LLD) at the University of Aberdeen, which was first established before the Reformation by Bishop Elphinstone of Aberdeen, having obtained a papal charter for its foundation. The Nuncio entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See in 1970 and served in the Pontifical Representations in Senegal and Scandinavia, and then in the Council of Public Affairs of the Church ot the Secretariat of State in the Vatican. He was appointed Apostolic Pro-Nuncio in Cuba in 1988 and four years later Apostolic Pro-Nuncio in Zaire. In 1999 he was appointed Apostolic ProNuncio to the European Communities in Brussels. Pope John Paul II appointed him Papal Nuncio to Great Britain in 2004.
