Confidence in the future of St George's

From Bishop George Stack: Sir, The leading report in (July 13) about staffing levels at St George's School, Maida Vale, was seriously misleading.
I write to express my concern at that article. I can also assure you that the school is in an excellent position to build on the work of the task force (acting headteacher and two deputy heads) appointed by Westminster LEA in March 2000. This team was to manage the school until July 2001.
The school governors have appointed Philip Jakszta as the new headteacher. He brings to this post an excellent record of experience in school improvement. Both as deputy head at Cardinal Wiseman High School, Ealing, and as acting headteacher at Blessed John Roche School, Poplar, he has successfully addressed the issue of improving standards. The substantial improvements in pupil performance under his leadership are evidence of his outstanding professional abilities.
Contrary to the impressions contained in your article, both the Diocese of Westminster and the City of Westminster Education Authority are confident that St George's School will flourish under his leadership.
Yours faithfully
+ GEORGE STACK
Chairman, Westminster Diocese Education Board London WI
