REX MORE ALIVE THAN EVER

Degrelle's Exalted Addresses to Leaders
From Our Belgian Correspondent_ To replace the executive dissolved on June 14, Degrelle, the Chief, constituted a new executive. He appointed Messrs. Jean Denis, Josd Street, Jean de Loplaem, Usmard Legros and Paul de Mont.
It is interesting to follow M. DegreBe's pronouncements since M. d'Ydewalle's unmasking of the alleged double dealing within Rex (see page 9).
" Today's meeting," stated Degrelle at a regional gathering of the Lirnbourg Rexists at Hasselt, "proves that Rex is more alive than ever. Rex is a veritable hallucination for our enemies. No fortnight can pass without them finding Rex on their trail. And thus shall it be when we come into power. Any other party would have been wiped out completely by the assault of the coalition forces which Rex has marvellously resisted since April 11. [Date of M. van Zeeland's election.J We bless the trials we have undergone recently for thanks to them, we now know who are the true Rexists."
Catholic Attitude
Waxing wroth at the allegation that the Rex Catholics are indifferent to any search for their peace of conscience, the Chief continued: "Let it be repeated for the hundredth time that we desire all Catholic Rexists to fully respect the teachings of the Church. But we do not want a State Catholic Party. Our hearts are pure. We are of good faith. Honesty always finishes by winning the day.
" The disappearance of Rex in the country would mean the setting up of a common front and of revolution. And the Church must rejoice at seeing standing erect to oppose such horrors a healthy force such as Rex! "
Appeal to People
In a leading article in Le Pays Reel M. Degrelle writes two columns in a highly exalted tone about the duty of Rex leaders. In substance, it is not a reasoning that will have any weight with the cultured Belgian. It is meant for the crowd. One passage runs: "Those who are leaders of Rex have to render an account to their own conscience. Admirable crowds have been entrusted to them, crowds of such disinterestedness and nobility as bring tears to one's eyes. What, in fact, have these crowds to gain by following Rex? For the moment, nothing! What have they to lost? For the moment, everything!
"To be a Rexist is to admit in advance with smiling courage, troubles, worries., and often injustice. It is to give one's time, one's rest, one's home peace, to a thankless task, without any material compensation. It means to struggle solely for moral values, for the raising up of a people, for its spiritual unity, for its fraternity—and--much nearer still—for its safety and salvation."
