U.S. envoy to

Ireland dies
ATSSAGES of sympathy from IVIChurch and State and from the Diplomatic Corps have been pouring into the U.S. Embassy in Dublin following the sudden death in Omaha on Saturday of Mr. Francis P. Matthews, U.S. Ambassador in Ireland and a former Secretary of the Navy. He was 65.
Mr. Matthews was one of the prospective Democratic candidates at the Chicago Convention at which Mr. Stevenson was chosen.
He was Supreme Knight of the Knights of Columbus of America from 1939 to 1945, a Papal Chamberlain, a Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the Holy Sepulchre, and a Knight Grand Cross of the Order of St. Gregory. He leaves a widow and six children.
