Holy Father receives diplomats

M. Cassimir Papee, Ambassador of the Polish Government in exile, was the first of the diplomatic envoys accredited to the Holy See to he received by the Holy Father for the exchange of New Year wishes.
The Holy See continues to recognise M. Papee because it refuses to acknowledge international changes other than those freely arrived at by both the parties concerned.
M. Papee was received first because he is now the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps by virtue of his seniority by appointment.
The Holy Father has resumed the individual audiences for the envoys in place of the wartime practice of a general audience.
47 NATIONS
A new official list of the diplomatic corps accredited to the Holy See shows that the number of nations represented at the Vatican has grown during the present pontificate from 38 to 47.
