MANY of the bishops attend the Hierarchy Standing Committee meeting at Westminster Cathedral on Tuesday at 11.30am.
Bishop Howard Tripp, auxiliary in Southwark, attends a meeting with secondary school headteachers on Monday at 4pm. Bishop Crispian Hollis of Portsmouth goes to St James School Reading at 5pm on Tuesday. On Thursday he attends La Sainte Union College of Higher Education, Southampton, Governors' meeting at 2.30pm, while on Saturday at Harn he goes to the Oratory School.
Bishop John Brewer of Lancaster attends Preston Catholic Youth Day, at Corpus Christi School on Sunday. On Monday he visits St Mary's Primary School, Morecambe. Bishop John Jukes, area bishop in Kent, visits St John's Comprehensive School, Gravesend on Monday. Bishop Patrick Kelly of Salford goes to a Junior Clergy Day at Salford University on Tuesday and visits St Paul's Secondary School, Stretford on Wednesday.
The launch of a paperback, an ordination, and the opening of a bookshop all feature in the
bishops' diaries this week. Archbishop Maurice Couve de Murville of Birmingham opens Veritas Bookshop at Leamington Spa at 6pm on Friday. On Saturday at 2pm he ordains John Bale at Great Malvern. Archbishop Derek Warlock of Liverpool goes to London on Thursday to the launch of a Penguin paperback version of his joint project with Bishop David Sheppard, Better Together.
Confirmations and visits to parishes are all part of the bishops' busy weekly schedule. Bishop Cormac Murphy O'Connor of Arundel and Brighton visits Petworth on Sunday and Thames Ditton on Saturday at 6pm. Bishop Philip Harvey, area bishop in North London, visits the parish of Mary Immaculate and St Peter, New Barnet on Sunday, and conducts confirmation at the church of the English Martyrs, Wembley Park, on Friday.
Bishop Augustine Harris of Middlesbrough visits St Clare's Church, Middlesbrough, and says Mass at 10am and 5.30pm. Bishop James O'Brien, auxiliary in Hertfordshire visits St Peter's, Hatfield on Sunday and Herts and Beds Industrial Mission at noon on Wednesday.
