Woman's bequests to nuns

Mrs Winifred Eleanor Gertrude Blackstone, of Clarendon Square. Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, who died in August, left £171,722 gross, £171,306 net. She left a number of personal bequests, £500 to St Peter's Catholic Church, Dormer Place, Leamington Spa, for religious purposes, and a further E100 for Masses; £1,000 each to the Little Sisters of the Assumption, Coventry, the Little Sisters of Nazareth Orphanage, Rednal, the Little Sisters of the Poor, Harborne, Birmingham, the Poor Clare (Colettines) Nuns, Baddesley Clinton, St Josephs Hospice for the Dying, Hackney, London, the NSPCC, PDSA, the RSPCA, the Home for Incurables, Leamington Spa, and the Jesuit Seminary Association; and the residue equally between the Imperial Cancer Research Fund, the National Society for Cancer Relief, the Chest and Heart Association, and Father Hudson's Homes, Coleshill, Mr Victor Horsley Hume Riddell, of Welcombe Road, Stratford upon Avon, Warwickshire, consulting surgeon at St George's Hospital, London, Hunterian Professor to the Royal College of Surgeons, and examiner in surgery to the universities of Cambridge, Leeds, Birmingham and London, who died in August. leaving £49,084 gross, £46,099 net. He made many personal and charitable bequests and left his surgical instruments not other wise bequeathed to the Catholic Nursing Institute "in gratitude for the many kindnesses which I have received from the nursing and administrative staff over a long period of time".
Gladys Mary Phillips, of Beaconsfield Terrace, Cross in Hand, Heathfield, Sussex, who died in September, left £42,770 gross, £42,001 net. She left PAM to St Bartholomew's Church, Heathtield, for general purposes, and a further £1,000 for the path of the church and its hedges; £550 to the Liberal Catholic Church, London, WO; 1500 to the Community of St Elizabeth of Hungary, Heathfield; £200 each to the International League for the Protection of Horses, and the Seaman's Friendly Society. Elizabeth Rayner, of Harewood Rise, Bogthorn, Keighley, Yorkshire, who died in September, left £25,495 gtoss, £25,103 net. She left £1,000 each to the Salvation Army, Keighley, the Sue Ryder Home, Keighley, St Anne's Catholic Church, Keighley, and the RNID.
Miss Avril Vivienne Anne Greenaway, of The Lawns, Mount Pleasant, St Albans, who died in September, left £21,677 gross, 119,369 net. She left £100 to Fr Joseph Farrell, of Cathedral House, Brentwood, Essex, "in recognition of the kindness he has shown and the help he has given to me".
Mr Joseph Benedict Evans, of Gorringe Drive, Lower Willingdon, Eastbourne, who died in August, left 114,566 gross, £14,394 net. He left £50 to Fr John Flanagan, now or formerly parish priest of St George's Catholic Church, Polegate, East Sussex, to be used by him as he pleases,
Mrs Lucy Lottie Caroline Walden, of Finchale Road, London, SE2, late of Beresford Street, SEI8, who died in September left £10,762 gross, £9,630 net. She left f100 to St Peters Catholic Church, Woolwich New Road, SE18.
Miss Ethel Lizie Rolfe, of adymead, We bourne Road, Bodham, Norfolk, who died in September, left £6,242 gross, £6,023 net. She left £500 each to Servite Houses, London, Mother Teresa Homes, London, and Cheshire Homes, £250 to St Josephs Catholic Church, Sheringham, Norfolk.
