The Pope to speak this

Sunday t AFTER a short voyage far more peaceful than that of St. Paul 1,900 years ago, Cardinal Muench, Papal Legate, arrived in Grand Harbour, Malta, on Wednesday in the British Frigate "Surprise".
With him, the Legate brought precious relics, part of the chains that bound St. Paul in prison. The relics, in the care of Bishop D'Ama to, Abbot of St. Paul's-outsidethe-walls in Rome, were carried in solemn procession to the Co-Cathedral of St. John.
Malta's Governor General, Sir Guy Grantham and Archbishop Gonzi boarded "Surprise" to meet the Legate, to present VIPs and Service Chiefs, and to escort him by open car through the cheering crowds of Maltese.
Cardinal Godfrey, Archbishop of Westminster, who was received in audience by Pope John on Tuesday, arrived shortly before the Legate. Already there were Archbishop Heenan of Liverpool who had been received in audience by the Pope on Monday, Bishop Beck of Salford and Bishop Rudder. ham of Clifton.
Also present were Cardinal Traglia, and Cardinal Marella from Rome, and thousands of foreign visitors joining the Maltese for a real gala day which ended in all churches, public buildings and even private homes being floodlit.
On Saturday, evening there will be a procession from the Collegiate Church of St. Paul Shipwrecked, in Valletta, bearing the Island's most treasured relic, the arm of St. Paul. At 8 p.m. there will be Pontifical
British sailors marching Irons Floriann to Si. John's Co. Cathedral, Valletta, where, with

other servicemen, they attended High Mass to mark the 19th centenary of St. Pours ship
the Knights of Malta arrived on Tuesday. On Thursday they were due to go in procession from Mdina Cathedral
wreck off Malta. The sermon was preached by' Abbot Butler at Downside Abbey.
(built on the site of the house of Publius whom Paul converted) to nearby St. Paul's grotto—a cave, now covered by a church, which was St. Paul's home during his stay on the island.
At the Grotto the Legate was to bless a votive lamp brought by the Knights and which will burn for ever before the statue of St. Paul.
During the Papal Legate's stay, he is to attend an open-air pageant on the life of the Apostle, received an honorary degree from the University, and preside at an open air Mass in Floriana Square.
In the same Square on Sunday night the main celebrations of the 19th centenary of St. Paul's shipwreck will close with a solemn service during which Pope John XXHI will broadcast a message to the people of Malta.
