Pax Romana Goes Ahead In

Latin America
From Our Own Correspondent With the European conflict putting to a temporary end its activities in Europe, Pax Romana, international federation of Catholic college students, carries on its work in the Americas, in India, and wherever the war has not
laid a heavy hand.
Circular No. IX, one of a series regularly issued by the Washington office of Pax Romana, shows that activities of Catholic student groups affiliated with the organisation are in particular being actively extended and intensified throughout the Latin-American countries.
The Circular notes the European situation in reporting that the annual Congress, scheduled to be held this year in Spain, " will be postponed to a more favourable epoch"; and also reports the planned meeting of leaders in Fribourg, conditions permitting; the relief work being carried on, the common prayer for peace, and the episcopal jubilee of Mgr. Besson, Bishop of Fribourg, Lausanne and Geneva, honorary president of Pax Romana.
IN LATIN AMERICA
In the Latin-American countries the work of Pax Romana is carried on by the Confederation lbero-Americana de Etudiantes Catolicos (Cider:). which held its third Congress at Bogota, the capital of Columbia, in July last. Cidec, err affiliate of Pax Romano; is now planning, after a conference with Pax Romana representatives. to hold an Inter-American Pax Romana Convention in July, 1941.
Meanwhile, Catholic students in all the Central and South American countries are being interested in Catholic student organisations, and through them, in affiliation with Pax Romana. Membership is thus being built up which will pave the way for an extension of Pax Romana activities into every quarter of the Western Hemisphere. Chile reports activities of the Asociacion Nacional de Estudiantes Catolicos which the Washington office finds " very encouraging." These activities in Chile are of special interest at this time, in view of the Leftist inclinations of the Chilean government. Puerto Rico reports the formation of a second Catholic student group at the College of the Sacred Heart at Santurce, and the formation of a Puerto Rican Federation, the Asociacion Puertorriquena de Universitarios Catolicos.
INDIA PUBLISHES HANDBOOK
Brazil and Argentina, two countries whose Catholic students are not yet affiliated with Pax Romana, are evidently on the road to collaboration with the international organisation, the Circular notes. Encouraging news of Catholic student work in the lay apostolate comes from Cuba, where the Agrupacion Catches Universitaria is carrying on a large programme.
In the United States, the National Federation of Catholic College Students reports progress in national coverage and in obtaining official approval by the religious authorities. The Federation has the approval of the American hierarchy, and is an official part of the National Council for Catholic Youth, a part of the National Catholic Welfare Conference.
India reports the publication of a handhook explaining the purpose and programme of Pax Romarta, and furnishes many indications of willing collaboration with Pax Romana.
