EtOth Catholic and non-Catholic delegates attended a week-end COnterence in Manchester last weer-end to discuss the woik 'of Pax Romans: and World Student Relief. The contererice, which commenced on Saturday and concluded on Sunday evening, was organised on a Regional basis by the Newman Association.
Dr. Hugh O'Neill, who inaugurated the conference, spoke of the history of Pax Romana, and said that this year's conference would be held in Mexico.
Much, he said, had to be done in the way of assisting world students, and Manchester was one of the centres for the supply of books. The last Congress was held at Washington in 1939, and althoagh the delegates on that occasion belonged to two warring trauma, there was no evidence of any feeling' of ill. will between them.
A secretariat was set up in Washington which had produced good results and since then Pax Romana had deaeloped by the admission of a number of federations from North and South America and India. The way was set fair for them to carry on in the future on the lines laid down by the Hierarchy of England and Wales in their joint letter last week.
Dr. O'Neill read a telegram from the Catholic' University students of Paris, who conveyed their gratitude to " gallant England " for their work for a happier world.
The object of the conference was chiefly to interest Catholics with a view to getting adequate Catholic representation on the World Student Relief teams going abroad.
